Abstract: Freshwater diatom samples were collected and identified from the North Region of Wuyi Mountain, China, in November 2015. According to light microscope (LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), a newly reported diatom, Gomphonema biceps Meister, was identified and described here in detail. The morphological differences between this geographic population of G. biceps were compared with previously reported foreign populations and similar species with asymmetrical valve shape. In addition, the geographical distribution and habitat characteristics of G. biceps were discussed in this paper.
